Show some love!! Foster.

Filed under: dogs, rescue dog, shelter dogs — swissymouse @ 4:44 pm
The Mutt Scouts has lots of great dogs available for adoption right now…and there’s a bunch more coming in this week.
The problem we are having is there is not enough foster homes.
When dogs are rescued they need to learn about things like love and boundaries. That is where the foster home comes in.
Rescue would not be possible without foster homes. They make the animal rescue world go round.
I’ve basically fostered at least 3 dogs at a time for over 5 years on top of my own  jumble o’ mutts. Yup, that’s a hell of a lot of dogs.

But I think of all those dogs that have come and go. Many came from horrendous circumstances of abuse, neglect, pain and suffering. Many would have died only knowing that. Fostering gives them the best gift any living thing could ask for.

And that makes my heart feel good.

Here is ajust a few of the dogs I’ve fostered.

Great dogs for you.

Filed under: Uncategorized — swissymouse @ 8:27 am
We just happened to exit the 110 freeway right next to North Central Animal Shelter and I just happened to have my camera- so I had to stop – real quick.
Of course I fell in love with tons and tons of them. Lane said aloud- “there are so many beautiful animals why aren’t people clammering to get them out.”
Oh how I just wish.
Here is my most favorite…
Young girl- only 33 pounds- obviously neglected – super shy. But oh so special…just look at her!!

Blessing of the Animals

Filed under: dogs, photography — Tags: — swissymouse @ 12:20 am

So I met up with my friend Melissa and went over to Olvera Street for the Blessing of the Animals this past Saturday. I had my two Ol’ bitches with me Loni and Feather. They were dressed in their Sunday best and they looked like angels straight from heaven.

Blessed Ol'bitches Feather & Loni

It was a fun time to look at all the animals and costumes. Loni and Feather did not actually get Officially blessed by the Cardinal b/c the line was too long. They sure are blessed with some good looks and winning personalities though.

City Birds & Recycled Rugs

Filed under: dogs, photography, rescue dog — swissymouse @ 5:55 am

I have not posted here in a while. I’ve been pretty busy with the dog rescue.

I live in downtown Los Angeles and our loft is surrounded by clothing factories. I’ve started a new project where I take all the fabric the factories throw away and I’m making the most bad ass rug out of it. I’ll take a photo of it when it’s done.

I’ve also been photographing a lot of city birds…when you live around so much concrete you really notice every bit of nature that comes around.

Train yard in Vernon Ca.

I never knew this part of Los Angeles existed until I moved downtown.

Vernon as described in Wikipedia..

“The population was 91 at the 2000 census. It has the smallest population of any incorporated city in Southern California; most of the city’s land area is occupied by industrial facilities.

Hence, it is fitting that the slogan on its official city seal is “Exclusively Industrial.”

I took Feather out for an all day “pretend your an only child” day. She loved it.

Feather is the only dog of mine that could take or leave the other dogs so she really enjoys pretending they don’t exist sometimes!

We went by my friend’s cool and creepy antique shop to get some old doors and Feather was the perfect model. She will stay perfectly still and stare at you with this look like she is trying to put a spell on you.

Take what you got

Filed under: dogs, photography, rescue dog — Tags: , , — swissymouse @ 2:16 am

It is a little tough to go from the unspoiled beauty of South Lake Tahoe to the Industrial District of downtown Los Angeles. I can’t even think of two more OPPOSITE places. But I fully believe in making the best of what you have. Plus the dogs always need to get their yaya’s out. So we have been taking some of them to the beach every week. I mean think of how many people don’t get to go to the beach? They might live in the beautiful country but only the coastal kids get to hang at the ocean.

Here are photos from our trip to Huntington Beach yesterday

Pony lost her collar some time during the mayhem.

People are LAME

Filed under: dogs, rescue dog, shelter dogs — swissymouse @ 6:57 am

Just looking at the “New Hope List” of dogs that are next in line to be euthanized.

The way people treat animals is really unbelievable.
