I’ve been busy getting ready to move back to L.A so i’ve not been able to update in a long while. This update is especially for Terrah because she wonders if i’ve gone missing and I know she faithfully checks my blog.

I had a really fun week visiting Los Angeles.

I had so much fun with all my friends-who are all super talented ladies

I’ll be updating The Mutt Scouts blog with photos http://themuttscouts.wordpress.com/

Aurora is currently vacationing in South Lake Tahoe and will be taking her first trip to the Truckee Marsh tomorrow.

and Johan

And then it was back to SLT and out to the Truckee Marsh- I’m spending every free moment there with the dogs before we have to go back to the concrete jungle. Tomorrow we’re hoping to get a little boat to take down the river. FUN!

While the cats away..

Filed under: dogs — swissymouse @ 2:13 pm

I was wondering what the dogs do all day now that I have to work full time..

I got my answer today when I was going through the photos on my camera.

Apparently they dress up in funny hats and take photos with my camera as I did not take this photo!!

They think they are so clever!!

How Baby Shambles became Baby Shambles

I photographed this alien looking puppy at South LA Shelter to network just like I’ve photographed hundreds of dogs. When I got home I showed the picture on my camera to Lane saying “Look at this weird looking puppy that is at the shelter right now” Lane took one look at the photo of this weird skinny dirty puppy and said, “it’s a Baby Shambles”

Later that week when I was at the shelter again and I saw all the total creeps that were looking at Baby Shambles - I decided to rescue her. I could find that alien puppy a home no problem so I thought.

She went into boarding and soon she was vomiting and having diarrhea all over the place.

The vet came out to tell me, “She has Distemper, it is best if you have her euthanized because even if you spend hundreds of dollars on her and she survives she will never be normal and she’ll have weird twiches and brain damage but most likely she won’t survive.

I told him ok we’ll have to euthanize her.

The decision I made in the next few moments I THANK THE HEAVENS I DID!!

I went outside to think about it. I called another vet that told me I should get another opinion.

I decided not to give up on her I went back into the vet’s office and took Baby Shambles home.

That night Baby Shambles had blood shooting out both ends. She had her first seizure that night.

I did a ton of research on the internet and found a miracle drug that had cured Distemper dogs- this one vet giving this happened to be in Lancaster Ca. What a miracle! I made an appointment the next day and we were off to get the miracle shot.

Baby Shambles received two of the Anti-distemper shots as well as alot of forced feeding and intensive at home care. This vet said the same thing that Baby Shambles may have brain damage and that I should not adopt her out. At the time I thought ‘oh shit I can’t keep this dog”

finally eating on her own.

*Feeling better!!*

over the next few months I saw alot of dogs being returned to the shelter with Distemper- I tried to tell them about “the man in Lancaster” but they all just stared blankly at me.

There was an article about this serum- which is pretty controversial. All I know is that is saved my dog and for very little money. I don’t want to get into all the shelter politics but I know the serum works…and I’ve seen alot of dogs at the shelter die from Distemper

And that is how Baby Shambles became Baby Shambles, moustache man, farter, bed hogger, Pit Bull of my Dreams.

She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed but she ain’t twitching!!

A town called Genoa

In this town the Wild Mule Deer must outnumber the human residents 10 to 1. It’s a cute tiny little town. Really old- it has the oldest bar in Nevada which has been serving since 1853. Every time we drive through we are amazed at the number of deer mulling about. It’s really surreal. Today I finally got to photograph them, though only for a minute.

I’ll surely go back next time with my Hasselblad.

Deer are such beautiful gentle creatures. I can’t believe people would want to kill them and drive home with them DEAD on the top of their car. It’s just gross.

I read an article a while back about a woman who on opening day of hunting season this year shot and killed an albino deer. “She said it was thrilling to see the rare animal, but 100 times more exciting to be able to actually take it home.” What a bitch. Have you ever seen what an albino deer looks like??! They are straight out of a fairy tale. How could you kill that??

Snowball fight

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. When we took the dogs out, all the dog spots were crowded with people. So we went on a search for a new spot and we found a great one.

Its in the forest where there were fires this summer and all the trees are scorched.

Lane played a game of catch the snowballs with the dogs…

and I got to worship the sun a little.

Move to a small town from a big city

live with your husband and his best friend- who have a business and are in their office together 24/7

add 15 feet of snow so you can’t even leave the house…

…and you’ve got a pretty severe case of cabin fever.

Luckily I have a large circus troupe of mutts to keep me entertained.

Some artsy photos-

My exciting trip to Trader Joes

Filed under: Uncategorized — swissymouse @ 7:04 am

I was supposed to go away for two days with my friend Ruth for her birthday. We were going to go to a town called Murphys and stay in this really cute cottage. But the weather forced us to cancel the trip. So today instead of being able to tell you all the fun and exciting things we did- this post will be about MY TRIP TO TRADER JOES…

I am about ready for the snow to GO - AWAY- NOW.

I’m so over it.

These photos were taken enroute to Trader Joes, which by the way is a whole hour from our house…

Sure it’s pretty but that doesn’t make it suck any less.
